Sudbury Molestation for Safety A Trade Not Worth Making

In general, I prefer my columns and opinions to be visceral. I don’t spend a lot of time refining or re-writing them, as I don’t want to dilute the emotion or the opinion. What you get is me, essentially unfiltered.

I was ready to go off on today’s moronic protest in the U.S. against the TSA and its overaggressive safety measures. I still will, but my issues with the protest – and the fact that its instigator was not even flying himself today – has been tempered by the public molestation of a 15-year-old girl in Sudbury. Williams Memories Should Be Burned – But Only Into Our Minds

By now most Canadians know the macabre story of Russell Williams, the former colonel who was in command of Canadian Forces Base Trenton and now finds himself in another federal establishment – Kingston Penitentiary.

Wednesday, they went to Williams’ former home in Tweed, ON to recover all military clothing, documentation, and equipment, in accordance with military rules. Some may believe there are no absolutes in life – that everything is a shade of grey. Well, that’s absolutely wrong. There are a few things that are absolutely not true: there are no African princes just itching to give you millions for the right to borrow your bank account; there are no nubile young Russian women who just happened upon your Facebook page and think that your personality is so dynamic that they must talk with you.

An Engaging Way to Shine a Light on a Forgettable Monarchy

For many, yesterday’s announcement of an engagement between Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton was an unforgettable moment; for me, it was a reminder of just how forgettable the monarchy is in our modern Canadian lives.

You see, Canada’s a part of the Commonwealth, a group of independent member states (54 in all), most of whom were part of the British Empire. Queen Elizabeth is head of that organization and is also Canada’s Head of State. So the monarchy is a pretty big deal for many Canucks – and royal watching is a spectator sport.

On Nov. 15, 2010, Michael Vick was on top of the world, with thousands of people cheering his name as he led the Philadelphia Eagles to a resounding 59-28 victory on Monday Night Football. Just over three years ago, countless more were hoping to see him locked up for so long that the only football he’d ever play would be for the Mean Machine.
